Automatic Meter Reading(AMR) System



A Pilot Project has been put up at the Gamadia Hill Substation, at Gamadia Road Area of south Mumbai since January 2003.

This Pilot Project using the state of the art Technology of Power Line Carrier Communication (PLCC) to get the consumers meter readings to the data center using the existing power lines. No additional wiring or cabling required!

The hourly and daily data of the meter reading and consumption is brought to the data center. The data center also gets alarms in case of any fault or any kind of tampering. This will prevent power theft. The Control center can also remotely switch on and off the individual consumer meter without sending any person to the consumer.

The system also has the facility for Energy Auditing of the substation. The software generates the required MIS for the purpose.

The system is easily adapted for installation and solves the following main tasks:

• Collection, accumulation, processing and displaying of information on electric power consumption.
• Control over a technical state of distributive networks and metering devices, indication of failures, plunders and other violations, drawing up of porch and feeder balances.
• Electric power consumption control on a consumer level (Remote switching-on/off, restriction of consumption)

The system uses a unique technology of data transmission by electric wiring in 0.4 kV feeder limits, working in domestic networks and has high capacity analytical equipment of the central control program.
